How Much Chakra Does Naruto Have?
There’s no canon number — here’s what the manga actually establishes instead.
The manga never gives Naruto’s chakra a numeric value — any figure you see cited (including “1000 chakra,” a number that circulates widely online) is fan invention, not canon. What the series does establish clearly is relative and qualitative: Naruto starts with unusually large reserves as an Uzumaki, gains half of Kurama’s chakra at birth, later gains full access to it, and by the war’s end can draw on Six Paths Sage Mode — putting him among the small handful of characters described as having village-ending levels of power.
If you’re looking for a ranked comparison against other characters rather than Naruto specifically, see Who Has the Most Chakra in Naruto?
Why There’s No Actual Number
The official databooks rate named characters across eight stat categories — ninjutsu, taijutsu, genjutsu, intelligence, strength, speed, stamina, and hand seals — each on a scale that tops out at 5. There is no separate “chakra amount” stat in that list. Stamina is the closest proxy, and even that measures endurance broadly rather than a literal chakra quantity. Any specific figure attached to a character’s “chakra points” that circulates online is a fan addition, not something Kishimoto or the databooks ever published.
About the “1000 chakra” claim
This specific number appears on a number of fan sites and had been repeated on this page in a previous version. It does not appear anywhere in the manga, anime, or official databooks. Treat any precise numeric chakra value you see cited for any character as unsourced.
What the Manga Establishes Instead
| Stage | What changed |
|---|---|
| Birth | Sealed with half of the Nine-Tails’ chakra by Minato and Kushina, on top of the Uzumaki clan’s naturally large reserves — the in-story reason Uzumaki were repeatedly chosen as jinchūriki hosts. |
| Academy through early Shippuden | Reserves are large enough that Naruto can spam the Multiple Shadow Clone Jutsu, an A-rank technique that drains most shinobi quickly, without much strain — a point the series calls out explicitly as unusual. |
| Post-reconciliation with Kurama | Gains full, willing access to the Nine-Tails’ chakra rather than the leaking, dangerous version used earlier, unlocking Nine-Tails Chakra Mode. |
| Fourth Great Shinobi War | Receives Six Paths Sage Mode directly from Hagoromo Ôtsutsuki, combining natural energy with tailed-beast chakra at a scale the manga treats as effectively unprecedented for a non-Otsutsuki character. |
| Post-war and Boruto era | Retains Kurama’s partnership and Six Paths-derived abilities as Hokage; his exact standing continues to evolve in the ongoing Boruto storyline. |
Why shadow clones matter for this question
The clearest in-story evidence of Naruto’s reserves isn’t a stated number, it’s that he can field hundreds of Shadow Clones simultaneously and still fight afterward. Kakashi notes explicitly that this uses “an unbelievable amount of chakra,” which most shinobi couldn’t sustain even a fraction of — the series shows the scale rather than stating it.
Commonly Claimed vs. Actually True
| Commonly claimed | Actually |
|---|---|
| Naruto has exactly 1000 chakra | No numeric figure exists in canon for any character’s chakra amount — this specific number is unsourced fan content. |
| The official databooks rank a “chakra” stat out of 5 | They rank stamina, not chakra amount specifically, among eight named categories. There is no chakra-labeled stat. |
| Naruto’s chakra can never run out | It can and does — the manga shows him running low or fully depleted in several fights, including needing rest and recovery after major battles. |

If you want the actual eight-category stat ratings referenced above instead of an invented chakra number, this is where they’re published — straight from Kishimoto’s databooks rather than a fan wiki’s guess.

Naruto Box Set 2: Volumes 28–48
Covers the reconciliation with Kurama and the build-up to Six Paths Sage Mode — the two biggest jumps in Naruto’s reserves described above, both happening within this range of volumes.
